Speaker Presentations |
On this page you will find presentations that speakers shared with us after Chesapeake Green 2022. Below you'll see a description of the session and a link to the PDF of their presentation. Day 1 – February 15, 2024
Everything Professionals Need to Know About Boxwood Mr. Lynn Batdorf, The Boxwood Guy For
thousands of years, boxwood has been prominently featured in private and public
gardens. Yet, accurate and detailed information to make appropriate
professional decisions remains elusive and vague. In this informative and fun
session, all the major horticultural considerations, pests, diseases, abiotic
concerns, landscape uses, site conditions, recommended cultivars, and much more
that impact boxwood are presented. Common Case Studies in Greenhouse Production: The Technical Specialists’ Perspective Mr. George Grant, Griffin Case
studies are an effective way to demonstrate real-life issues growers face and to
showcase solutions to resolve them. As a technical specialist, we help growers
from all walks of life, ranging in size and production scheme. This session
will outline various case studies of common abiotic and biotic issues seen in
the greenhouse with strategies you can use to enhance your diagnostic
capabilities. Each case study will accompany present-day
cultural/chemical/biological/nutritional recommendations for management and
prevention. Day 2 – February 16, 2024 Dr. Kurt Vollmer, University of MD Wye Research & Education Center Herbicide
resistance has been documented in at least 14 species in Maryland, with only 4
having been documented as being glyphosate-resistant. However, 90% of all
herbicide failures can be attributed to factors other than resistance.
This presentation will discuss how weeds develop resistance, ways to
tell if resistant weeds are present, and external factors that can contribute
to herbicide failures.
Ms. Ginny Rosenkranz, University of MD Extension, Wicomico County Take a walk through the weeds in the landscape from spring to fall and get updates on when and how to remove them. See the difference between grasses and sedges and learn how to control the strongest herbaceous perennial weeds with the least toxic controls.
Ms. Ginny Rosenkranz, University of MD Extension Turf,
like all plants, has specific needs - from soil types, to soil pH, and to
nutrients that are in the soil. In this presentation, Ginny will discuss
what healthy turf grass needs in the way of soil nutrients, and how these
nutrients help maintain the turf to stay healthy, fight off diseases, and look
beautiful.
Understanding How to Make Use of Enhanced Efficiency Controlled Release Fertilizers Mr. Chuck Schuster, University of Maryland Extension The benefits of using EEF's in turf
management have been debated for a long time. A review of what the benefits are
and how they can make management easier for many turf managers. How to
determine what to use, and where the return for the costs may be. |
